CF Atlantis Tool: The Complete and Tailored Solution for Product Carbon Footprint Calculation

A technical approach for environmentally friendly production

In our journey toward more environmentally conscious production, we have adopted CF Atlantis, an advanced tool to accurately calculate the carbon footprint of our products. Certified with CF SYSTEMATIC APPROACH by a third-party entity accredited by ACCREDIA, this tool enables us to address environmental challenges with reliable data and targeted strategies.

A structured system for rigorous analysis

CF Atlantis is a system designed to adapt to the specifics and needs of our production processes. Thanks to its independence from external software or entities, it ensures maximum control, transparency, and accuracy in data management and emission calculation. Our tool adopts a step-by-step approach based on the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology, including:

  • Definition of the goal and scope.
  • Life Cycle Inventory (LCI).
  • Impact Assessment (LCIA).
  • Interpretation of results.

All of this is carried out in compliance with international standards UNI ISO 14040:2021, 14044:2021, and UNI ISO 14067:2018, as well as aligning with the product category rules defined by PCR 2019:04 v.1.03.- Jackets, coats, and other similar outdoor garments v. 1.03 created by International EPD System.

The CF Atlantis Tool calculation process

Conducting a Product Carbon Footprint (CFP) study means performing a thorough, multidimensional analysis in which each phase of the product’s life cycle plays a crucial role in ensuring precise and comparable results over time.
For this reason, we developed the CF Atlantis tool by carefully analyzing the following areas:

  • Extraction and sourcing of all raw materials used.
  • Logistics, including transport methods and distances traveled.
  • Energy consumption at production sites.
  • Process emissions and use of auxiliary materials.
  • Waste and scrap management generated during the production process.

Thanks to this approach, we rely not only on statistical values but also on real, specific data, considering the entire extraction, production, and transformation cycle to obtain an accurate measurement of environmental impact, aligned with our operational needs.

Reliability and scientific validity of the data

Our CF Atlantis tool considers all greenhouse gases regulated by the Kyoto Protocol, including CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFC, PFC, SF₆, NF₃, and others, converting them into CO₂ equivalent (CO₂eq) using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) methodology, as defined by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
In accordance with the UNI ISO 14067:2018 standard, emissions are reported by distinguishing the different contributions into:

  • GWP Fossil – emissions from fossil sources.
  • GWP LULUC – emissions from land use and land-use change.
  • GWP Biogenic – emissions from biological sources.
  • GWP Total Climate Change – the overall sum of the different contributions.

Thanks to this structure, CF Atlantis enables the identification of areas with the greatest environmental impact and helps optimize production processes with a focus on emission reduction.

Beyond the calculation: a tool for ecodesign and future emission reduction

Calculating the carbon footprint of products is just the starting point. The goal is to go further by supporting choices aimed at ecodesign. The CF Atlantis tool not only measures but also helps design more sustainable products. In particular, it allows:

  • Comparing materials and identifying those with a lower environmental impact.
  • Selecting low CO₂eq emission alternatives during the design phase.
  • Optimizing production processes, suggesting solutions such as:
    – Use of less impactful materials.
    – Improving energy efficiency.
  • Simulating production and logistical scenarios to evaluate how small changes can significantly reduce the carbon footprint.

It’s not just about analysis, but action: these evaluations highlight how targeted interventions can lead to a significant reduction in emissions, while also forecasting the necessary efforts and achievable benefits.

A constant commitment to sustainability

CF Atlantis is not just a calculation system, but a true tool for transformation and innovation.
Thanks to reliable data and a scientific approach, we can plan a future where emission reduction becomes an integral part of every production choice.
