Why switch our visors?
Every product tells a story. Atlantis Headwear’s story begins with a question that has never stopped guiding us: “How can we truly reduce the environmental impact of our products?”

Since 2021, we have chosen to take a closer look at the impact of the different stages of our products by conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on the most representative items across our main categories. This journey revealed that fabrics and visors are the main sources of emissions during the sourcing and production phases. From there came our decision: to replace virgin plastic in our visors with recycled alternatives, without compromising on aesthetics or performance.

Our research led us to ReTraze®, a Chinese company that works with small businesses, fishermen, and NGOs to collect end-of-life fishing nets before they become marine waste, transforming them into 100% recycled polyethylene. A partnership that allows us to make a concrete contribution to preventing a global issue (that of “ghost gear”) by turning it into a real opportunity for conscious design.

For us, ReTraze® is much more than a supplier: it is a partner that shares our vision of sustainability. Their commitment begins with prevention: stopping fishing nets from ending up in the sea by collecting them directly from fishermen and sending them through a precise recycling process. The nets are sorted, cut, washed, melted, shredded, extruded, and finally transformed into recycled polyethylene sheets. From these sheets come, among other things, the visors of our caps.

The result is a strong and durable material that allows us to reduce CO₂eq emissions by 46%* compared to virgin plastic, without giving up the aesthetic and functional qualities that define each of our products.

*Reductions are calculated through a sensitivity analysis comparing the environmental impact of lower-impact materials with conventional ones, using the certified CF Atlantis v. 0.7 calculation tool. This tool meticulously tracks the Cradle to Gate journey, from raw material sourcing to delivery of the final product to the Atlantis warehouse.
A chain of positive actions.
A more conscious approach to materials.

1

Fishing nets are recovered before they can be abandoned at sea.

2

The nets are processed so that the resulting material is suitable for recycling.

3

The result is 100% recycled polyethylene (PE) chips.

4

The chips are melted to create ReTraze® panels, from which Atlantis visors are cut.
