With the Paris Agreement, which entered into force in 2016, all EU member states ratified an action plan to limit global warming to below 1.5°C if possible. The latest scientific climate data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) tells us that we are dangerously close to that threshold, but it also shows that it is still possible to take action to reverse the trend. The way forward is rapid and deep cuts in global emissions to halve them by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
