What is it?
The production of cotton fabric requires a large amount of water. It takes about 10,000 liters of water to produce 1 kilogram of cotton, which is roughly the equivalent of one T-shirt or one pair of jeans.
By choosing the alternative of recycled cotton, we extend the life of a fiber that has already been produced with fewer environmental resources.
Recycled cotton is regenerated cotton fiber obtained from production waste, such as in our collection (pre-consumer), where our supply chain partners collect textile waste from fabric production, or from fabrics that have reached the end of their life (post-consumer). Once collected and sorted by color, the scraps are shredded and converted back into raw fiber. The result is then spun back into yarn for reuse in other products.
With regenerated cotton, the same fabric can find new life in other products, using less energy, water and chemicals than virgin cotton, freeing up land for other crops and keeping the product out of landfills.
We are constantly working with our supply chain partners to increase the use of recycled cotton in our raw materials wherever possible.
